It's coming...

Easter is a month away. It was just Christmas really. Not that I am fussing about spring and new energy and life but time seems to have flown by. I know it does not go any faster. There are still 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day and 16 hope for the year after 8 hours in a week the same as always. Well two weeks ago we lost 100 millionth of a second as a result of the Japanese Earthquake. But really I didn’t miss it! Did you? I didn’t think so.

Spring does bring that sense of newness and hope for the year to come. I almost wish each New Year started April 1st instead of January 1st. I think there would be more energy and excitement for the days ahead. Maybe we can start a facebook campaign for it? At Crossroads Church Easter is a great time together. Worship attendance is larger even larger than Christmas for us. Last year we had 130 join us in celebration of life on Easter. We celebrate the day with a meal including dishes prepared by some of the best cooks in the country. The children enjoy an egg hunt on the grounds of the assembly underneath the grand pecan trees adorned with boughs of Spanish moss gently swaying in the wind. The conclusion has become an egg toss competition with all ages and raw eggs. As you might imagine laughter fills the air as the springtime sun warms the faces of playing children. Can you see it in your mind? You should see it with your eyes by joining us.

This spring includes excitement of getting started assembling our building on the hayfield. As of Thursday we received a second draft of our formal agreement between Crossroads Church and the Savannah Baptist Assembly and Association. That document has taken a long, long time (in my eyes) so it surprised me when it came in my in box. No time to look over it again and if all is well get it signed. Then we can make real tangible steps for moving the building and completing the work to use it.

We are making preparations for our Camp Crossroads June 16-18. This is our annual Vacation Bible School. This year our students are leading us to raise money to pay the overnight expenses for the campers and staff. They think it is that important to minister to others before themselves. Sounds like a Jesus thing to me.

The most amazing thing about spring is Easter. “For God so loved the world that He gave...” Easter, “While we were yet sinners Christ died,” Easter, “he became sin,” Easter innocent, not guilty was he Easter. This past week I have realized that while Jesus was washing the feet of his disciples, dirty, stinky, nasty feet he knew one would stay with him to the end, 10 would desert him when he needed them the most and one would betray him to death and he washed ALL 24 feet. Yep, even Judas feet Jesus washed knowing full well what Judas would soon do. Not me, would you? Jesus did, that’s Easter. Why? Because he loved his Father and what his Father loves. Jesus loved his Father first and his neighbors next. That’s the amazing thing about Easter and it’s coming. Are you ready?
